Moscow, June 15,2025: Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump
had discussed the situation in the Middle East in a phone conversation, the Kremlin said.
“The conversation lasted for 50 minutes, it was substantive, sincere and very useful,” Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Saturday.
“Naturally, it was focused on the dangerous exacerbation of the situation in the Middle East.”
Putin denounced the Israeli military operation against Iran and expressed grave concern over the possible escalation of the conflict, which would have unpredictable consequences for the entire Middle East region, he said in a statement.
“Putin emphasized the importance of preventing the conflict from escalating and the readiness of the Russian side to engage in possible mediation efforts,” he said.
Trump also views the situation as very alarming, he said, adding that the Russian and U.S. presidents do not rule out a return to the negotiating track on Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump noted that the team of U.S. negotiators is ready to resume work with Iranian representatives, according to Ushakov.
Putin also informed Trump about the execution of the agreements reached by the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul on June 2 and expressed readiness to continue talks with the Ukrainian side after June 22, he said.
Trump took note of this information and reiterated his interest in bringing the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to a speedy conclusion, he added.
Jerusalem, June 12,2025: Israel has informed US officials that it is fully prepared to launch a military operation in Iran, the CBS News broadcaster reported on Thursday, citing sources.
Washington expects that Iran may launch a retaliatory strike on some American facilities in neighboring Iraq, the report said. This is one of the reasons why Washington advised some Americans to leave the region earlier on Wednesday, the report added.
At the same time, Israeli officials reportedly declined to comment on information about the possible start of the operation.
On Tuesday, the Axios news portal reported, citing Israeli and American officials, that US President Donald Trump said in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he believes in the possibility of concluding a nuclear deal with Iran and opposes the use of military action at the present time.
Washington, May 20,2025: US President Donald Trump told European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after his phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had asked Russia to present a proposal on Ukraine that “people can agree to” rather than reject immediately, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Trump reportedly said that Putin would draft a “peace memo” that will include his terms for achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and eventually resolving the conflict.
Trump also dismissed the idea of imposing additional sanctions on Russia, which European leaders hoped he would do after the call, the sources were cited as saying. This reportedly “stunned” the heads of Germany, France, Italy, Finland and the European Commission, who were on the line with the US president as he talked with Zelenskyy on the phone after his call with Putin.
In addition, whereas a European source described the call to Axios as “constructive,” another source said that Zelenskyy thought it was “bad.” The US administration has yet to comment on the issue.
Putin and Trump held a two-hours-long phone conversation on Monday. Following the talks, the Russian leader said that Moscow was ready to work with Kiev on a possible future peace treaty. The US president said he did not want to increase sanctions pressure on Russia because there was still “a chance of getting something done.”
April 30,2025: Canada’s ruling Liberals have won Monday’s election. Per CTV News and CBC projections, Liberals were leading or elected in 165 electoral districts, which are also called seats, followed by the Conservatives with 147. Yves-François Blanchet-led Bloc Québécois is projected to win 23 seats, while Jagmeet Singh’s NDP may have to settle for just 7 seats.
Prime Minister Mark Carney had asked for a strong mandate to help him handle US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and annexation threat, but CTV and CBC said the Liberals had not yet secured the 172 electoral districts they needed for a majority. Follow Live Updates Here.
In his first address after the victory, Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked Canadians for the mandate and pledged to fight against the US President’s annexation threats. “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us, that will never ever happen,” Carney said.
The newly elected Prime Minister said Canada should “never forget the lessons” of the United States’s “betrayal,” in a stark rebuke of President Donald Trump. “We will win this trade war,” Carney told cheering supporters in Ottawa, while warning of “challenging” days ahead brought on by Trump’s tariffs and annexation threats.
“We are over the shock of the American betrayal, but we should never forget the lessons,” Carney said, adding that he will “discuss the future of two sovereign and independent nations” with Donald Trump in the coming days. He also stressed that the Liberal government will strengthen partnerships with countries in Europe and elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Canada’s Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre conceded defeat in the country’s election and promised to work with the Liberal government in countering US President Donald Trump’s trade war and annexation threats. “We will always put Canada first,” Poilievre told supporters in Canada’s capital, adding: “Conservatives will work with the prime minister and all parties with the common goal of defending Canada’s interests and getting a new trade deal that puts these tariffs behind us while protecting our sovereignty.”
New Democratic Party (NDP) chief Jagmeet Singh, known to be a pro-Khalistan leader, resigned after he failed to retain his seat in the Canadian elections. Addressing supporters from riding in Burnaby Central, Singh acknowledged his party did not do as well as hoped in Monday’s election but said, “We are only defeated if we stop fighting.”
The Liberals’ victory marked one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Canadian political history. On January 6, the day Trudeau announced he would resign, the Conservatives led the Liberals by more than 20 points in most polls. But Carney replacing Trudeau, combined with nationwide unease about Trump, transformed the race.
Carney had promised a tough approach with Washington over its import tariffs and said Canada would need to spend billions to reduce its reliance on the U.S. But the right-of-centre Conservatives, who called for change after more than nine years of Liberal rule, showed unexpected strength.
Nearly 29 million of Canada’s 41 million people were eligible to vote in the massive G7 country that spans six time zones. Results were still pending on the shape of Canada’s 343 members of parliament, with 172 seats needed for a majority. The Liberals won a majority in 2015 but have governed with a minority since 2019.

The April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which has been linked to cross-border handlers, has led India to downgrade its ties with Pakistan, with Islamabad replying in kind. PM Modi has also vowed vengeance for the attacks and said the perpetrators will be hunted down to the end of the earth.
New Delhi, Apr 23,2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack after he landed in the National Capital early on Wednesday from Jeddah.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other senior officials were present at the meeting. The External Affairs Minister and the Security Advisor briefed PM Modi on the current situation and the attack in detail.
After attending a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Modi returned home this morning.
PM Modi has called a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in the wake of the emergency situation.
The terror attack in Pahalgam began around 2:30 pm on Tuesday. Among the 26 killed was a Navy officer who was married a week ago and an Intelligence Bureau official who was shot dead in front of his wife. The victims included two foreigners – from the UAE and Nepal – and two locals, officials said.
Reports suggested that ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group – operatives of which likely crossed over from Kishtwar in Jammu and reached Baisaran through Kokernag in south Kashmir – has claimed responsibility. However, the government has not yet confirmed this.
