New Delhi, Dec 27,2021: Congress MP from Assam, Ripun Bora, on Monday demanded the panel which is being set up by the Centre to look into withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Nagaland, must be extended to other states of North East (NE) where AFSPA is imposed.
“AFSPA is not limited to Nagaland but other states of NE too. The situation in other states are also similar to Nagaland with regards to AFSPA,” Bora told UNI, reacting to Centre’s decision to form a panel to look into withdrawal of AFSPA from the northeastern state, following last week’s meeting.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the Nagaland delegation-led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NEDA convenor and Assam CM Himanata Biswa Sarma on December 23, over the December 4 civilian killing incident at Oting in Mon district of Nagaland.
Even though the senior Congress leader hailed the GoI’s step to constitute the panel, Bora said: “Centre decided to constitute the Committee for Nagaland because people of the state protested against the law, demanding it to be repealed.
“The other states of NE were not included. The panel should be extended to other states of the NE region.”
On Sunday, Rio while addressing a press conference in Dimapur informed about the Centre’s Committee and said the panel will submit its report within 45 days and withdrawal of AFSPA from “disturbed area” demarcated in Nagaland will be based on its recommendation.
On the Oting firing incident, the Nagaland CM said: “A Court of Inquiry will initiate disciplinary action against the army unit and army personnel who were directly involved in the incident and action will be taken immediately on the basis of fair inquiry.
“The identified personnel who will face the inquiry will be placed under suspension with immediate effect.”
Rio also said the state government will give jobs to the next kin of the deceased.
The Indian Army in a statement said, “Inquiry ordered by Army is progressing expeditiously and all efforts are being made to conclude it at the earliest.”
After the Oting incident, Meghalaya CM and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K Sangma along with Rio had demanded repeal of AFSPA.
“Welcome the move of GoI, Amit Shahji for approval to set up a panel to review imposition of the AFSPA in Nagaland. The panel should examine the whole of North East,” Sangma tweeted on Sunday.

Srinagar, Dec 20,2021: Amid reports that the Delimitation Commission has proposed six additional assembly seats for Jammu region and one for the Kashmir Valley, Kashmir centric politicians on Monday hit out at the Union government for serving BJP’s interests.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said it was deeply disappointing that the Commission appears to have “allowed the political agenda of the BJP.”
“The draft recommendation of the J&K Delimitation Commission is unacceptable. The distribution of newly created assembly constituencies with six going to Jammu and only one to Kashmir is not justified by the data of the 2011 census,” he said in a series of tweets.
“It is deeply disappointing that the Commission appears to have allowed the political agenda of the BJP to dictate its recommendations rather than the data which should have been it’s only consideration. Contrary to the promised ‘scientific approach’, it’s a political approach,” he added.
Another former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said the “real game plan is to install a government in J&K which will legitimise the illegal & unconstitutional decisions of August 2019”.
“My apprehensions about the Delimitation Commission weren’t misplaced. They want to pitch people against each other by ignoring the population census & proposing six seats for one region and only one for Kashmir,” she tweeted.
“This Commision has been created simply to serve BJPs political interests by dividing people along religious and regional lines. The real game plan is to install a government in J&K which will legitimise the illegal and unconstitutional decisions of August 2019,” she added.
Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone said the “recommendations reek of bias”.
“The recommendations … are totally unacceptable. They reek of bias. What a shock for those who believe in democracy,” he said in a tweet.
The Delimitation Commission was set up last year to redraw the electoral constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir and four northeastern states.

The mega semi-conductor project is expected to deepen India’s integration with global value chain and have multiplier effect across various sectors.
As per the plan, a minimum of 20 chip-manufacturing units would be set up in the next 2 years.
Elaborating on the plan to make India a global chip manufacturing hub, Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the government has also envisaged to create a talent pool of highly-qualified engineers over the coming years.
Accordingly, a chips to start-ups (C2S) plan has been approved.
A design-linked incentives (DLI) has been approved by the government under which 50% of the design related expenditure would be borne by the Government of India.
The Programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem is expected to significantly contribute to achieving US$ 1 trillion digital economy and a US$ 5 trillion GDP by 2025.
Vaishnaw said that in the last seven years the electronics manufacturing industry in the country has reached US$ 75 billion.
“…and the rate at which we are moving we would reach the figure of US$ 300 billion in the next six years,” he said.
