Washington,Sept 16,2021:The United States announced a new alliance Wednesday with Australia and Britain to strengthen military capabilities in the face of growing rivalry with China.
The announcement of the alliance — made in a video meeting by President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his British counterpart Boris Johnson — is sure to raise hackles in Beijing.
It also met with swift pushback from France, which has been negotiating a multi-billion-dollar sale of conventional submarines to Australia.
Biden said the work to enable Australia to build nuclear-powered submarines would ensure that they had “the most modern capabilities we need to maneuver and defend against rapidly evolving threats.”
The submarines, stressed Biden and the other leaders, will not be nuclear armed, only powered with nuclear reactors.
Morrison later announced Australia would also acquire long-range US Tomahawk cruise missiles.
The three leaders did not mention China in unveiling the partnership, dubbed AUKUS, but their intent was clear.
Washington, Jul 13,2021: The strategic dialogue between Moscow and Washington has to aim to develop a new “security equation” that will include all types of weapons, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has said.
“Our starting point is that the goal of the strategic dialogue should be development of a new ‘security equation,’ which takes into account every important factor. Such ‘equation’ should cover all offensive and defensive weapons, both nuclear and conventional, that are capable of solving strategic tasks,” Antonov told Russian-speaking students of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

New Delhi,Feb 22,2021: India and China have agreed to push for a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues, including friction points at Gogra, Hot Springs and Depsang in a steady and orderly manner after the 10th round of military talks at Moldo on the Chinese side on February 20.
In a joint effort to maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas, the Corps Commanders of India and China had candidly and in-depth exchanged their views on other issues along the LAC in the eastern sector.
“The two sides positively appraised the smooth completion of disengagement of frontline troops in the Pangong Lake area noting that it was a significant step forward that provided a good basis for resolution of other remaining issues along the LAC in the eastern sector,” the India-China joint statement issued on Sunday said.
The two sides also agreed to continue their communication and dialogue, stabilize and control the situation on the ground, push for a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues in a steady and orderly manner, to maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas, the statement further said.
The 10th round of military talks followed after the two forces completed their disengagement process at Pangong Tso areas on Thursday.
India and China were locked-into border standoff since over nine months at several locations in the eastern Ladakh. The standoff had even led to violent brawl in the Galwan Valley on June 15, where 20 Indian troops were killed in the action with Chinese soldiers.
Two day ahead of the 10th round of military talks, China had announced that four of their soldiers were killed in the Galwan Valley. It took around eight months to declare the names of killed soldiers. The development came days after a Russian wire agency reported that 45 Chinese soldiers were killed in clash with Indian troops.
New Delhi, Feb 13,2021: Ministry of Defence on Friday said that India has not conceded any of its territory as a result of the disengagement agreement with China.
The Defence Ministry’s statement came hours after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a press conference, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “ceded” Indian territory to the Chinese.
“India has not conceded any territory as a result of this agreement. On the contrary, it has enforced observance and respect for LAC and prevented any unilateral change in the status quo,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
Permanent posts of both sides at the north bank of Pangong Tso are longstanding and well-established. On the Indian side, it is Dhan Singh Thapa Post near Finger 3 and on the Chinese side, east of Finger 8. The current agreement provides for cessation of forward deployment by both sides and continued deployment at these permanent posts, it added.
The Ministry reiterated that the factual position has already been clearly communicated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in his statements to both the Houses of the Parliament.
Mr Singh had on Thursday informed the Parliament that a major breakthrough has been achieved between India and China in eastern Ladakh, with both the sides initiating disengagement of troops from the southern and northern sides of Lake Pangong, on a mutual agreement basis.
“The assertion that Indian territory is upto Finger 4 is categorically false. The territory of India is as depicted by the map of India and includes more than 43,000 sq km currently under illegal occupation of China since 1962. Even the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as per the Indian perception, is at Finger 8, not at Finger 4. That is why India has persistently maintained the right to patrol upto Finger 8, including in the current understanding with China”, the statement said.
Indian and Chinese forces are at a face-off since last May in eastern Ladakh when the Chinese troops intruded deep into the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control.
